Airsoft Guns – The Basics to Know
Airsoft guns are manufactured in three different, distinct styles: electric, gas, and spring. Each of these three types work in essentially the same way. Compressed gas is expanded into the barrel to forcefully propel the pellet. Each type of air gun has its own specialized mechanisms, disadvantages, and advantages.
The history of the airsoft gun began in Japan during the 1970's. During that time, it was not legal to carry or possess any type of firearms, despite the huge interest in them. In order to address this interest, the gun manufacturers began to create new, spring-powered guns which had the same look as real firearms. Yet, instead of firing of bullets, they were designed to fire rubber or plastic BB's.
The earliest variety of airsoft guns were of the spring powered variety, which later evolved into the compressed gas powered variety utilizing a host of different systems. The hobby of owning an airsoft gun migrated to the United States and North America in the 1990's. Along with this migration came the next transformation, as the low powered, spring system guns became known as the Classic airsoft gun.
Approximately ten years after the airsoft gun arrival to North America, the Japanese economy hit a recession. As a result, many of the original airsoft gun manufacturing companies were lost. The inventor of automatic electric guns, Tokyo Marui, was left as the primary manufacturer of airsoft guns. He then created a new and improved system which improved the range and accuracy of the weapons. Classic Army, a company based in Hong Kong, became a prominent manufacturer of airsoft guns in the early portion of 2000. Today, Classic Army guns are equally rivaled with Tokyo Marui.
In the current marketplace, numerous Chinese branded airsoft guns have flooded commercial markets with inexpensive, beginner's level weapons.
