the best stopping power in the world wont help you if you cant hit a vital area.

rifled slugs and sabots weight the same, although they are fitted to barrel size as you pointed out your still getting the same 1 1/4 ounce slug you get with your rifled slug.

bigger ill give you that, heavier no, and as i said before more than likely neither your rounds or mine would be lead.

and i shoot both, sabots are nice for the long range shots but rifled are all kinds of cheaper.

I was shooting at a small coffee can. Im trying to say for a smoothbore shotgun, rifled slugs are pretty accurate. Yes in a rifled barrel the sabot is more accurate than the rifled slug. But Rifled slugs have better stoping power cause they are bigger, heavier, and made of lead so they expand better. The sabot is faster and more accurate in a rifled barrel. Both good rounds but since I don’t have rifling. I can’t shoot the sabot. So I use the rifled slug which is great for my type of barrel.

i disagree with your lead comment.

yes you could hit the target, but was that target the size of a barn? i can consistently get a 2 inch grouping with my 870 express with rifled barrel. and having your rounds tumble in the air decreases accuracy dramatically. the effect your looking for is a great mushroom and a tumble that starts once the bullet makes contact, not before. and no shit buckhammer slugs are the worst to get hit by as they are completely flat nosed and therefor the least accurate

Most of rifled slugs are lead. There are slugs that are copper but they are made for rifled barrels. When I had my red dot sight on my gun. I was able to hit the target over and over again at 100 yards with rifled slugs. I shoot slugs a lot and I have seen the difference. Buckhammer slugs would be the worst to get hit by. since I don’t have rifling in my barrel, the Sabots rounds will tumble through the air and hit the target sideways.

first off most slugs are now made from bismuth, tungsten, steel or other “none toxic” materials.

they aren’t more accurate than i think and regardless of how “devastating” they are nothing is as deadly as a well placed shot.

Sabot slugs is .58 cal and rifled slugs is .73 cal. A 3″ magnum rifled slug can travel around 1700 to 1800 fps. Rifled slugs are also soft lead so they expand better. Rifled slugs are devastating and more accurate then you think

    absolutely wrong

basically take everything he said and the opposite is true. except for sabots being more accurate, that was true.

sabot slugs are accurate but rifled slugs do more damage but then again they have made rifled slugs as accurate as sabot slugs

Instead of saying that could be you on “drugs” when the camera guy picks up the fruit,,,he should have said,”that could be you on SLUGS”. Nice 12 BTW.

  19. Brutalnemisis  on August 18th, 2009

I have a Mossberg That can do that at 100 yards with a Sabot slug. Alot of people dont know how accurate you can make a 12 guage using the right ammo/barrel ( I meen a rifled Barrel) combo.

I steer clear of the produce aisle, for sure.

This is going to escalate beyond all control. Sure, it makes a “funny” video now, but one day you’ll be dealing with a grapefruit insurgency. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
