The system is extremely poor quality. The braces are made of soft aluminum and no matter how tight you screw the screws it is impossible to hold the blade of any knife. It is impossible to control sharpening angle for the blade. The whole system just doesn’t make sense. I just had to return the item for full refund. Then I went to Lowe’s and bought really good sharpening system for half of the price.

This is a great kit! The only limitation is that there are some small knives that can’t be sharpened well due to angles – this is going to occur with any kit of this type/design. I have a friend who has been using his kit for over 10 years and sharpens well over 2 knives per week with it. It does show some wear but functions perfectly. Produces a razor edge easily. I have sharpened everything from normal steel blades to titanium blades. The kit works perfectly without issues. I highly recommend this kit.

Although this kit works, I am not pleased by the quality. I believe some of the stones that came in my kit should have been rejected because they are not perfect flat stones. Some are chipped all around the edges and one of them came unglued the first time I used it. Poor quality control at Lansky IMO.

The Lansky sharpening system is one of the better I’ve used. Primarily for pocket knives or anything with a blade no more than five or six inches, this system gives a perfect, razor sharp edge in minutes. Five hones, ranging from extra coarse for re-establishing an edge or changing a bevel, to super fine, for polishing the edge to a mirror finish, are included.
The clamp system to hold the blade at a fixed angle of 30, 25, 20, or 17 degrees could be better. The aluminum jaws tend to slip if you’re not careful, and the thumb screw on one side and the end of the tightening screw on the other side have a tendency to get in the way if you’re using 20 or 17 degrees. Some sort of rubber or latex lining on the inside of the jaws would help with slipping, and a cam lock might help to get rid of the thumb screw.
If you follow the instructions and work methodically from one grit to the next, you’ll end up with scary sharp knives every time. When I got mine I sharpened all my pocket knives–about 30–and every one was perfect. I have strange bald patches all over my forearms where I tested to see if they were “razor sharp”. My wife thought I had a disease.
If Lansky could improve the clamp, I would easily rate this system as the best I’ve ever seen. And if they made a larger version so I could work on my larger hunting knives without having to loosen and move the clamp along the blade, I’d buy it in a second.
The Lansky sharpening system is well worth the money, despite my little quibbles.

It is excellent sharpening system (Lansky). Sharpens knives like factory-made. If you would like to change old hones purchase just same hone.
