What is the difference between the same airsoft gun but different brand?

by on 2009/12/10

I was looking at an airsoft gun that I liked a lot. It was an Echo 1 Scar. However, I saw the same exact gun by BoyD and AGM but these were cheaper. I have seen this kind of thing in other guns to. Is there a difference in quality or performance of the same gun model made by a differnet company?

Yeah its alot different. Echo 1 is a pretty good brand, Dboys is fairly decent and AGM is a chinese company. If you are on a budget get the AGM even though it is cheaper it still is a pretty good brand. The Echo1 is the best out of all of them.

As far as I understand it D-boys and AGM just use the same body for their SCAR, internally I cannot say what either does but I know that that AGM is generally crap, D-boys is pretty close to crap as well. The Echo1 uses a different body and Echo1′s inside are generally pretty good.

SCARs from companys last I saw were ranked like this.

1. VFC SCAR
2. G&G SCAR
3. STAR/ARES SCAr
4. ECHO1 SCAR
5. Classic Army SCAR
6. D-boys/AGM SCAR

AGM =/= DBoys. They’re both sub par, but DBoys internals aren’t near as bad, and their externals are a bit better.

The Echo 1 is a rebranded DBoys.

In airsoft, manufacturer/brand/company is everything. You buy from an off brand, an unbranded item, or just generally a bad manufacturer (such as AGM), you get garbage. Every time. You buy from a quality manufacturer, you get quality. Every time.

The best way to think about brands is like you think about car brands. All cars have the same basic functions; you put a key in and go somewhere. Some offer style, class, and upgraded features, the same can be said with airsoft guns.

Echo 1 “makes” great low priced guns the majority of the time.
Makes is in quotes because E1 buys guns from company A and alters their insides and makes a few modifications to make the gun slightly better at a lesser cost. Great brand for beginners.

DBoys is a fairly newer brand. They make their guns shoot hard/fast, but a lot of customers complain that after about a year the insides of the gun are falling apart because they’re forcing the insides to do more than it was intended.

And AGM, is also a pretty reliable company.

Now in terms of the SCAR from these 3 companies, I’ve only handled the E1 and D-boys versions, not the AGM. From what i could tell the E1 and DBoy were pretty equally matched.

The same basic features, same basic look and feel. The only real different was that E1 had a faster rate of fire, where as D-Boys shot a tad bit harder (chono’d 10FPS higher than the E1) . Both guns had relatively the same accuracy. So the question is do you want a faster rate of fire of a slightly harder shooting gun

the dboys externals are much better. except for the stock which you will need to be careful with. i recommend never getting a dboys unless you know how to work on a gearbox. in my experience it will need some serious shimming, regreasing, and some piston work.

There is DEFINETLY a difference.
Echo 1 has the best internals by far.
DBoy has excellent externals but shaky internals
AGM is cheap chinese brand, it’ll break somewhat quickly

Don’t let anyone fool you, there is a difference in every single brand there is. Though there is rebranding, the guns still have parts interchanged.

If you have the extra money I would go with the echo 1. I really like echo 1. Truth be told, they are the same manufacturer as jing gong (a cheaper brand), but they are definitely higher quality than jing gong, and AGM/Boyi.
